Meet our speakers for AASP Small Group Meeting 2026!

Moh. Abdul Hakim is the Head of the Psychology Department and Lecturer at the Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Sebelas Maret. He earned his PhD in Social and Political Psychology from Massey University, New Zealand, and his Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Psychology from Universitas Gadjah Mada.

His research examines the intersection of culture, leadership, ideology, and political behavior. He teaches Social Psychology, Indigenous Psychology, and Political Psychology, combining academic rigor with practical applications in assessment technology and psychometrics. In 2013, Dr. Hakim co-founded the Indonesian Association of Indigenous and Cultural Psychology, which has grown to over 100 members.

Ayu Okvitawanli is a Lecturer at the Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Sebelas Maret, specializing in cognitive science and behavioral psychology. She earned her PhD in Philosophy from Friedrich-Schiller University Jena, Germany, her Master of Science from Erasmus University Rotterdam, and her Bachelor of Cognitive Science from The University of Hong Kong.

Her research focuses on social psychology, cognitive processes, memory and attention, and psychological research methodology. She has contributed to community development through psychological intervention programs in local schools and economic empowerment initiatives in rural tourism villages.

Takeshi Hamamura is a cultural psychologist at Curtin University’s School of Population Health. He earned his PhD in Cultural Psychology from the University of British Columbia and previously taught at the Chinese University of Hong Kong before joining Curtin in 2014.

His work focuses on cultural transmission across societies, including the global spread of mindfulness and its impact on Asian cultural practices. He employs advanced data science methodologies, including big data analysis, machine learning, and natural language processing, to study cultural change and its psychological effects. Dr. Hamamura currently teaches Social Psychology and supervises research on cultural dynamics and cross-cultural psychological processes.

Elizabeth Newnham is an Associate Professor in the Curtin University School of Population Health and Program Lead for the enAble Institute. She holds a Master of Psychology (Clinical) and PhD from The University of Western Australia and completed postdoctoral fellowships at Harvard University and the University of Oxford. She is a registered psychologist with AHPRA and an invited member of the WHO’s Thematic Platform on Health Emergency and Disaster Risk Management Research Network.

Her central research interests include the mental health consequences of trauma and adversity, and evidence-based interventions for communities affected by disasters, climate change, and colonization. She is Principal Investigator for Crisis to Calm – a youth co-design intervention study, and a Chief Investigator on the Our Journey, Our Story project: improving the cultural security of mental health services for Aboriginal young people in Western Australia. Dr Newnham is the Founding Director of the Asia Pacific Disaster Mental Health Network, supported by the World Health Organization.

Rachel Ting Sing-Kiat is a cultural-clinical psychologist and Professor of Clinical Psychology at Fuller Graduate School of Psychology, with an adjunct role at Monash University Malaysia. Her research focuses on minority and Indigenous wellbeing, Chinese psychology, psychology of religion, and disaster mental health. She founded the Southeast Asia Indigenous Psychology Network and currently serves on the APA Committee on Global Psychology (2025–2027).

Trained at UC San Diego and USC, she has been a licensed psychologist in California since 2009. She previously led major clinical training programs at HELP University, China University of Political Science and Law, and Monash University Malaysia, earning multiple awards for teaching, clinical supervision, and educational innovation.
